Innovative Technology 2024/2025

This is a two-credit compulsory course offered to third-semester students of English Language Education Department. This course will help students reflect on how various forms of electronic and digital technology can play in the teaching and learning process, and how they can engage this process in their classroom later, as future teachers. In other words, the students will examine ways in which newer technologies can be integrated effectively in educational settings for the enhancement of teaching and learning.

In addition, the students will be exposed to basic theories of the implementation of educational technology from existing research and will be assisted in determining appropriate applications of these theories and techniques in educational settings.

Language and Education Research KU 472 2024/2025

This 4-credit course is offered the ELED students in their sixth semester. This course explains the methods to create a research proposal in educational and linguistic contexts. Students who finish this course are expected to be able to create a complete research proposal that consists of the first chapter (introduction), second chapter (literature review), and third chapter (research methodology).

A. Course Description

This course is designed to provide an introduction to the fundamental principles of research methods, focusing on the researches in educational contexts. The research methods being focused on are: Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches.

The course duration is 3 hours 20 minutes/week. Face-to-face meetings, field works, and online discussions serve as the activities of the course. The face-to-face meetings focus on a lecture/discussion of reading assignments and group exercises, while the field works are used to develop skills, either through collecting data, analysing data or doing exercises. In addition, the online discussion forum prepares the students for the assigned readings prior to the face-to-face meeting and facilitates them to further learn the materials outside the classroom.

B. General Objectives
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to be able to:

  1. become literate in the basic principles of educational research
  2. receive hands-on experience in collecting/gathering data for both quantitative and qualitative approaches
  3. acquire basic skills involved in analyzing and interpreting research data

C. Specific Objectives
On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:

  1. Comprehend the fundamentals of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-method approaches.
  2. Develop and validate the data gathering instruments for quantitative approach (questionnaire/test), and qualitative approach (interview/observation).
  3. Understand the principles of research sampling and select appropriate research samples.
  4. Conduct effective data gathering techniques in both quantitative and qualitative approaches.
  5. Analyze research data both quantitatively (statistical software/SPSS), and qualitatively (Coding).
  6. Interpret and draw conclusions from research results.

Instructional Development class is a 4-credit class which comprises 200 minutes for each meeting. In this class, you will learn about the theories of instructional development as well as practice on how to develop the instructional design. It prepares you to be a prospective teacher who is highly qualified in English language teaching.
